China has earmarked another 1 billion yuan (147 million U.S. dollars) to be spent in the fourth quarter, which ends in about six weeks, to improve rural reproductive health care programs.

—Purple Avenger John Dingle was booted as committee chair in a secret vote, to be replaced by Waxman.In a victory for environmentalists, Rep. Henry Waxman of Los Angeles ousted John Dingell, the longest-serving member of Congress, as chairman of the House committee that handles all energy, climate change and health care legislation. In a secret ballot, House Democrats voted 137-122 to replace Dingell with Waxman.The bad news is we’ll probably get some truly grotesque climate change legislation

Report Says New Drug-Resistant Bacteria Spreading Greek researchers have recently issued an admonition of sorts that a new type of drug-resistant bacteria called Acinotobacter baumannii is becoming increasingly common in hospitals and other health care facilities. The Agence France Presse reports that their analysis of data showed that nearly a third of cases involving infection by A. baumannii have shown resistance to frontline antibiotics.
